Here at Bankers Hall Chiropractic in Downtown Calgary, we are pleased to offer shockwave therapy for the treatment of acute and chronic injuries.
Benefits of Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment option that does not contain any side-effects. It is FDA approved for the treatment of many acute and chronic soft tissue injuries. Shockwave therapy decreases recovery times and reduces pain. It offers a 90 percent or higher rate of success for treating calcific tendonitis and plantar fasciitis. It offers a nearly 80 percent success rate in treating tennis elbow.
The treatment does not involve the use of numbing agents or anesthesia. There is no recovery time after the session and no risk of infection because the skin is not penetrated. It is also less expensive than many other treatment options.

Shockwave Therapy with our Downtown Calgary Chiropractor
Our Downtown Calgary Chiropractor can evaluate your injuries and determine if shockwave therapy is right for you. If it is, our chiropractor will recommend a shockwave therapy treatment schedule. At the beginning of your treatment session, our chiropractor will apply a lubricating gel or cream to your skin. This reduces the friction between the wand and your skin. The shockwave therapy wand will be placed against your skin over the injured area. When the wand is activated, it sends acoustic waves through the skin and into the injured tissue. This stimulates the injured tissue, which prompts the body to send blood and nutrients to the area. The increase in oxygenated blood and nutrients stimulates the body’s natural healing ability, which reduces pain, increases range of motion and decreases recovery times.
Depending on your specific needs, the wand will either be held in place or moved slowly along the injured area for between five and 10 minutes. After the treatment, you can resume your normal daily activities. Sports activities and exercise may be limited until your injury is fully healed. Lifestyle advice may also be given to help prevent reinjuring the area during and after treatment.
