Here are the answers to some frequently asked question on the subject from our chiropractic team.

Man with neck pain.

What is K-laser therapy?

K-laser therapy is a non-surgical, drug-free technique for accelerating the healing process and/or relieving pain and inflammation. It belongs to a category of treatment known as low-level laser therapy or LLLT.

What is a low-level laser?

A low-level laser emits a beam of amplified light, but at a lower frequency than a surgical laser. (It is sometimes called a “cold” laser for this reason.) This means that, instead of cutting or burning tissue, the low-level laser passes right through the skin without any negative effects, focusing its healing powers on the underlying tissue levels.

How does K-laser therapy aid in healing?

The energy frequency of our K laser beam sets off a response in the mitochondria of the cells, causing them to produce more of a substance called ATP. Since ATP fuels cellular processes, the cells now have more energy for repair and regeneration of tissue. The K-laser also promotes blood flow to the treatment area, providing the tissue with optimal access to nutrients.

How does K-laser therapy relieve pain?

The same boost in blood flow that promotes healing also relieves pain and inflammation. The enhanced circulation encourages inflammatory substances and the fluids that cause swelling to exit the treatment area.

What makes the K-laser different from other low-level laser technologies?

The Class 4 K laser represents an advance over older Class 3 therapeutic lasers. Our K laser can penetrate to a deeper tissue depth than the older technology, allowing us to provide more comprehensive healing and pain relief.

What conditions can my chiropractor treat with the K-Laser?

Your chiropractor may prescribe K-laser therapy for the treatment of a variety of conditions. Examples include acute injuries, fibromyalgia pain, muscle and tendon strains, osteoarthritis, back pain, neck pain, nerve damage and carpal tunnel syndrome.

What can I expect from a K-laser treatment?

A K-laser treatment takes only a few minutes to complete. You’ll feel no pain during the treatment; in fact, you will most likely feel a pleasantly warm sensation. While your pain may start ebb right away, multiple sessions are usually required for treatment of injuries or more severe symptoms.
